Programs
Our school is accredited by Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) to offer the following degree and diploma programs in accounting:
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting (BS)
- Associate in Applied Science in Accounting and Tax Specialist
- Associate in Applied Science in Management Accounting
- Accounting diploma
Bachelor’s degree in accounting. Students can complete this program in three years of full-time study. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in a variety of public and private organizations, and can sit for the Minnesota CPA exam after graduation—those planning on practicing in other states should consult with those states’ agencies for CPA requirements. Students may apply for the Professional Certification Scholarship to defray the costs of the exam. Students complete core accounting and business classes and general education electives. Topics of study include the following:
- Accounting principles
- Managerial accounting
- Tax
- Audit
- Governmental and non-for-profit accounting
- Cost and managerial accounting
- Management accounting
- Fraud examination
- Payroll
Business classes help students understand the organizations in which they will work. An elective ACAT review class prepares students for valuable certification exams offered by the Accrediting Council for Accountancy and Tax. Students are also eligible to sit for the Certified Management Accountant certification exam.
Accounting diploma. Students can earn accounting diplomas in 12 months. Diploma graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions in accounting and bookkeeping, including opportunities in credit, payroll and inventory control. Job titles may include the following:
- Bookkeeper
- Payroll clerk
- Accounts payable/receivable clerk
- Receptionist
- Bank teller
Graduates are trained to prepare and analyze financial reports. Employers value skills such as these and know that our graduates have the knowledge needed for success in the accounting field.
Online available
Our accounting programs are available through the GU/MSB online division. Students can complete the coursework entirely online, or combine online and on-campus classes at our Lakeville college. They will enjoy the flexibility of distance learning and the support provided by our online help desk.
