Career options with an accounting and tax degree
Graduates of the Accounting and Tax Specialist AAS degree program look forward to positions in organizations such as the following:
- Public accounting firms
- Home-based tax consulting services
- Government agencies
- Accounting departments in large corporations
- Non-profit organizations
They are ready to operate tax preparation businesses or become business consultants. They will be eligible to take exams that lead to valuable tax certification credentials. A graduate of the AAS program who returns to Globe University/Minnesota School of Business will find that credits from the AAS in accounting and tax specialist program transfer smoothly to bachelor’s in accounting and bachelor’s in business programs.
Courses
Students complete core classes that cover accounting and tax topics such as the following:
- Accounting principles
- Payroll
- Managerial accounting
- Accounting systems
- Tax
- Fraud
They also complete business courses and general education electives.
The Accreditation Council for Accountancy and Taxation (ACAT) review class prepares students for the Accredited Business Accountant (ABA) certification exam, Accredited Tax Advisor (ATA) certification exam and Accredited Tax Preparer (ATP) certification exam. Those credentials indicate high levels of achievement and add value to a college degree. We encourage students to apply for our Professional Certification Scholarship to defray the costs of the exam.
Online accounting and tax specialist program available
The accounting and tax specialist degree program is available through the online division of GU/MSB and at our Lakeville campus. Students can complete their two-year degrees entirely online or combine online classes with on-campus coursework.
