Wondering where we started? Looking for a college with a history?
The first Minnesota School of Business campus opened in 1877 in downtown Minneapolis. Although we have grown and changed since then, one thing has remained the same throughout our history: our commitment to our students. They come first and their success is our success.

A 19th century business school
In the early years, the school offered shorthand, English and bookkeeping. Classes were taught in German and English so that members of the large immigrant community in the Twin Cities could obtain the training they needed. Students learned to operate various machines, including typewriters, adding machines and stenotype machines.

A 20th century career college
Training students in the use of the most up-to-date equipment is a hallmark of our college. In the early 20th century, students used typewriters; in the 1960s, they learned to program the first generation of business computers. In the 1990s, health science students learned patient care and laboratory procedures in well-equipped labs and classrooms. Students had opportunities to work in realistic professional environments.
